TEMPO.CO, Bogor - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa planned to develop cable cars to connect tourist destinations in the province; Bromo, Tengger, and Semeru (BTS).
“If we want to see the sunrise or sunset, we have to hike there at 2 a.m. and the road access is small. We hope there is a cable car,” said the Governor after a limited meeting with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Tuesday, July 9.
The construction of cable cars network is expected to ease the access for tourists willing to see the sun rises or sets in BTS areas. This project, she added, will also boost tourism in East Java.
According to her, the central government positively welcome the plan and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) determined to support the procurement of cable cars from Switzerland. “Switzerland has experiences in developing cable car,” she said.
Khofifah pinned hope the project construction will be expedited since it is listed in the national strategic project. Therefore, there will be a Domino effect on the region’s vicinity areas following the cable car construction.
