Three Earthquakes Rock West Sulawesi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that West Sumatra was hit by three earthquakes on Tuesday night, July 2, that was felt up to Mamuju, Mamasa, and Majene districts.

According to the BMKG, the three quakes happened after 21:51 local time. They concurred that the earthquakes’ epicenter was 5-meters on land, just five kilometers Northeast of Mamasa.

It was measured at MMI level IV according to the agency.

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake was also felt at 23:05 in the area of Mamasa which was centered on land, about 12 kilometers to Mamasa’s southeast at the depth of 5 kilometers. This was again followed by another earthquake measuring at magnitude 3.9.

The last earthquake’s hypocenter was detected from 6 kilometers deep and was felt up to Mamuju. Report on damages or casualties caused by the earthquake has yet been reported.
