Bromo Tourists Number Rises by 30 Percent due to Frost Phenomenon

TEMPO.CO, Malang - The frost phenomenon in Mount Bromo increased the number of tourists by 30 percent from that of daily average at 40 to 60 foreign visitors and 1,000 domestic visitors. The figure hike was also attributable to holiday schools.
“Tourists are highly interested, they want to see frost phenomenon,” said the jeep service provider Paino on Monday, June 24.
The phenomenon occurred since June 18 in Ranupani, Lumajang and several points of hiking trails of Mount Semeru.
Frozen ice covered Bromo areas, including the Sea of Sand and Cemoro Lawang, Ngadisari, Sukapura subdistrict, Probolinggo and hiking trails in Pasuruan Regency. The hiking trail is a tourist favorite spot to enjoy the sunrise with remarkable panoramas of the mountain area.
To date, the frozen dew or locally known as embun upas could still be seen in Ranu Pani and Cemoro Lawang. The phenomenon caused by the cold temperature recorded at below zero degree Celsius.
“The air temperature in the afternoon is at around 5 degrees, while in the night and morning, it will be below that,” said Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) official Sarif Hidayat.
Sarif said that frost is an annual phenomenon that happens during the transition period.
Tourists visiting Mount Bromo or hiking Mount Semeru are appealed to wear warm clothes to overcome the cold air.
