TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Development Planning Minister or Bappenas head Bambang P.S. Brodjonegoro said that the government has drafted a zoning development design of the future capital city. In that draft, the region will have four districts.

On Thursday, May 16, in his office, Bambang said that the first zone will be an administrative center that spans 2,000 hectares.

“We’ll build there State Palace, buildings of House of Representatives (DPR), Constitutional Court (MK), Supreme Court (MA), and Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), ministerial and non-ministerial offices, headquarters of Indonesian Armed Force and National Police, cultural park, as well as botanical garden,” he outlined.

The second zone is the capital area that is expected to have 40,000 hectares of land where the government planned to construct residential complex for civil servants (PNS), educational and health facilities, as well as universities.

Besides, science and Technopark, high-tech and clean industry, research and development, MICE or Convention Center up to museum will also be built in the second zone. According to Bambang, a museum building is necessary for the new capital city considering an advanced country also has one.

“A developed country's capital commonly has a museum near its administrative center. So a museum will later become an educational institution that provides a contribution of civilization and represents the capital,” Bambang remarked.

The government will also set 200,000 hectares area as the capital’s third zone to provide national park, orangutan conservation area or zoo, a housing cluster for non-PNS, up to airport or port.

“We will build an airport or port if necessary. We hope the new capital city will not be far from a functional city that has an airport and near a port,” Bambang added.

As for the fourth zone, it will also span about 200,000 hectares as an urban area and development area that is connected to other provinces.

Earlier reports suggested that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo signaled the capital to move outside Java. The relocation is expected to spend Rp323-Rp466 trillion. Bukit Soeharto in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan and Gunung Mas Regency, Central Kalimantan are the two potential locations for the new capital.
