VP Jusuf Kalla Speaks at Swiss' Global Platform for DRR 2019

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Vice President Jusuf Kalla is headed to Swiss on Tuesday, May 14, where he is scheduled to speak at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2019.

“Indonesia is considered to have the necessary experience from numerous disaster mitigations, whether it’s tsunami or earthquakes. Especially considering we’re part of the ring of fire,” said the vice president at the VP headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday.

The platform, according to him, is initiated by the United Nations (UN) that focuses on disaster mitigation and is held at the di International Conference Center Geneva (CICG) from May 13 to May 17.

This year sees it take the theme of ‘Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies’.

“They personally asked me to speak on how Indonesia handles disasters, which is considered important to form some sort of disaster mitigation system,” said Jusuf Kalla.

After speaking at the GPDRR, the vice president will also be heading to France where he will speak of issues on terrorism that is rampant deep across the internet. Jusuf Kalla was invited by President Emmanuel Macron and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
