TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution raised concerns over the implementation of the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. Darmin asserted that the implementation of OSS is one of the government's efforts to expedite overly complicated licensing process.

"I want to address Mayors, Regents, and Governors in relation to the OSS. This is the government's effort to solve the complex licensing process complained by President Jokowi," Darmin said an event at South Jakarta on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

President Joko "Jokowi" WIdodo said that the process of applying for a license in Indonesia is overly complicated. Jokowi even stated that complex licensing process not only occurs in regional government levels, but also on the central government.

"For example, license for wind power plant, geothermal power plant, all is complicated. For five years i have checked, some 250 licenses may not be done within three years, who can do it?" Jokowi said in his speech at the same event on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

President Jokowi explained that he will continue to do institutional simplification and remove licenses or permits considered to be useless. In addition, the simplification will also be carried out to reduce costs.

Darmin added that the current licensing and permit system had been reformed, one of which is through the OSS. Nevertheless, the OSS still cannot be used to apply for licenses in the banking and finance sector.
