TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (FITRA) asked President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo fill the future cabinet with professionals in their sectors. Ministers and institution heads were also required to have clear, good track records and integrity.

“Before dispatching someone in the working cabinet, they can check candidates through KPK (Anti-graft body),” said FITRA secretary-general Misbah Hasan on Sunday, May 5.

Misbah opined politicians might sit in the cabinet, but President needed to designate the composition between political party people and experts. To help the president’s tasks, the proportion of minister from parties must be reduced.

“Jokowi must able to make breakthroughs toward the achievement in national development planning,” he added.

FITRA recorded several indicators of the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) in 2015-2019 had yet to be achieved. “That perhaps related to the performance of the first cabinet ministers,” Misbah said.

In RPJMN, economic growth was targeted at 7-8 percent. However, the cabinet could only maintain it at 5 percent because of inadequate acceleration and several ministers who involved in the corruption cases handled by the KPK. “They must be replaced with professionals who have integrity.”

People from the non-political party was considered worthy and professional to fill in Jokowi`s new cabinet. “Even if [new ministers] from a party, they must have the basic based on their position.”

The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) researcher, Bima Yudhistira Adhinegara, seconded FITRA’s statement. Bima said cabinet ministers for economic affairs in the future must be assigned from professionals.

“Those who have competency in their field, not those who proposed by parties,” Bima said on Sunday, May 5.
