KPU: Poll Station Workers Death Toll Rises to the Hundreds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary General of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Arif Rahman Hakim announced the bleak news of the deaths of poll station working committees (KPPS) has increased to 304 people based on the latest data on April 29.

“Those falling ill reached 2,209 people, while unfortunate events loomed over 2,513 people,” said Arif in a written statement on Monday.

Other than KPPS members, there were also deaths from the Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) with 72 deaths in 23 provinces, while 305 are undergoing hospital treatment with 889 as outpatients.

Previously, KPU member Evi Novida Ginting said that Finance Minister Sri Mulyani has agreed to compensate the families of the dead victims and road accidents that happened during the Indonesia election.
