TEMPO.CO, Iraq - The Iraqi police have arrested a man for selling watches with pictures of Saddam Hussein after receiving reports from the public.

The police said that on 23 April 2019, they received reports from people who saw the man selling the watches at Rabi'e Street of Al-Jaamia district in Baghdad, as reported by Arab News and Kurdistan24.

There were no detailed explanations about the arrest.

The arrest happened not long after a poet appeared in the southern province of Dhi Qar to recite a poem that many interpreted as a tribute to Saddam.

Since Saddam Hussein was ousted in 2003, the distribution of items related to the former dictator, as well as his former party Ba'ath is banned. These include items bearing photos and symbols of the man and the party.

Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging on December 30, 2006, after being convicted guilty of humanitarian crimes.
