TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political expert Karyono Wibowo said the planned meeting between presidential candidates Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Prabowo Subianto should be held immediately in order to cool down the political tension after the presidential election.

“I suggest that the meeting be held immediately while we wait for the KPU’s vote tally,” said Karyono to Tempo on Monday, April 22. He also viewed the meeting as an oasis in the middle of a desert.

In respect of the constitution, he also called for members of the public to place their trust on the official tally by the General Elections Committee (KPU) rather than results by numerous quick counts.

Karyono added constant claims of election victory would stir massive problems in societies, mainly horizontal conflicts that might disrupt peace among people.

Political expert Syamsuddin Haris also shared the same opinion and called for an immediate meeting between Jokowi and Prabowo as it would become a positive move amid the present political strain.

"A Jokowi-Prabowo meeting is definitely positive to ease the situation after the election and simmer down the political tension,” he said.
