TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry continues to monitor air traffic to and from Bali's Ngurah Rai international airport following the eruption of Mount Agung. Last night, April 21, the volcano in Karangasem showed significant activities.

"We will continue to update the latest condition of Mount Agung's eruption," the ministry's air transportation director general Polana B. Pramesti said in a written statement, Monday, April 22.

The ministry, he said, is ensuring that flights are operating normally at the airport. Nevertheless, Polana asked relevant institutions to monitor the mountain's volcanic ash post eruption.

According to Bali's Region V airport authority chief Elfi Amir, as of 21:30 local time paper tests showed negative results for volcanic ash spread. This means that the volcanic ash did not reach the airport.

“The volcanic ash (VA) was more widely spread on Sunday, but conditions at the airport are safe," Elfi said, urging passengers not to panic.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation's Observation Post (PVMBG) announced that Mount Agung erupted on 18:56 Central Indonesia Time. Ash column was monitored to have reached a height of 3,000 meter from the summit.
