Man Injures 8 in Hit-and-runs Involving 5 Vehicles

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Eight people were injured last night after a man hit their vehicles with his car in South Jakarta. The driver, DS (38), hit one car and four motorcycles in a series of hit-and-runs that took place along the roads of Capt. Tendean and Dr. Sahardjo.

"On Thursday night, DS was driving his Toyota Camry," says Adj. Sr. Comr. Muhammad Nasir of the Metro Jaya Police's traffic division. He first hit a black Mercedez not far from the Rasuna Said underpass.

DS fled the scene and continued driving. He then hit a motorcycle at Minangkabau Road, causing injuries to the driver, Sandi Sutami (27). Not stopping, DS proceeded to drive and hit another motorcycle on the same road—also injuring the driver, Iwan (19), and passenger Hani (21).

DS still did not stop and hit another motorbike, this time an online motor taxi. The driver Mohammad Erlan Syamur (26) his passenger Fitriah (43) suffered injuries. Fitriah's wrist was even broken.

DS fled the scene again and continues riding his car. He hit another motorcycle, injuring driver and passenger; Salsabila Hanifa and Fani—both 16, who suffered injuries to their hips.

DS finally stopped driving after his car crashed onto a sidewalk not far from the last hit-and-run scene. The mob took out their anger at the man and beat him almost to a pulp. He is now being treated in a hospital.

Nasir said DS facing up to 10 years behind bars for violating several regulations in article 312 of Law no.22/2009 on Traffic and Road Transportation.
