KPU: Thousands of Polling Stations to Hold Follow-up Elections

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) announced there are 2,249 polling stations (TPS) across 18 Indonesian districts that are scheduled to hold follow-up elections after they were hampered by natural disasters.

“That number accounts to 0.28 percent from the total 810.193 polling stations,” said KPU Chairman Arief Budiman in a press conference at the Hotel Ritz Carlton Mega Kuningan in Jakarta yesterday.

The affected polling stations are located at; Jayapura City with 702 TPS, Jayapura (1), Keerom (6), Bintan (2), Waropen (11), Intan Jaya (288), Tolikara (24), Pegunungan Bintang (1), Yahukimo (155), Jayawijaya (3), South Nias (113), West Kutai (20), Banggai (391), Jambi (24), Banyuasin (44), Mahakam Hulu (4,) Kutai Kertanegara (8), and Berau with 11 polling stations.

Meanwhile, KPU Commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi said that they would be held again within 17 days since April 18, but cannot confirm when the follow-up elections would be held since the entire procedure for voters must be repeated again.
