TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the Indonesia elections day yesterday, General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Pramono Ubaid asked presidential campaign teams involved to wait for the official vote count and stop claiming their candidates have won the election.

“We hope the winning claims would only be done after KPU releases its official result,” said Pramono on Wednesday, April 17, at the Hotel Ritz Carlton.

Moreover, KPU also called for each presidential and vice presidential candidates to help maintain public order by reminding each candidate’s supporters to refrain from conducting any action that goes against the legal corridor.

“The law provides the proper mechanism to deliver objections,” he said.

The results from quick count surveys released yesterday suggests incumbent presidential candidate Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin had initially won the 2019 presidential election and beat their opponents by a small margin of 9 percent.

Quick count survey pollsters announcing their results include Indo Barometer, which already gathered 97 percent of its samples. They conclude that Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin leads with 54.52 percent votes while Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno earned 45.48 percent.

As of last night, Prabowo publically claimed to have won the 2019 presidential election in front of thousands of his supporters in South Jakarta.
