Bawaslu: 16 Provinces at High-Risk Ahead of Indonesia Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian election supervisory agency (Bawaslu) published its latest report on Indonesian regions that are prone to dispute during the 2019 general elections. They claim that 16 provinces are classified under this category.
Bawaslu Commissioner Muhammad Afifuddin said that these provinces score above the average high-risk index at 49.63 percent.
“Stakeholders must continue their efforts to prevent clashes from sparking during the election on April 17, 2019,” said Afifuddin in a written statement on Tuesday, April 9.
The high-risk provinces Bawaslu refers to include; Papua that scored 55.08, Aceh (50.27), West Sumatra (51.72), Riau Islands (50.12), Jambi (50.17), Bengkulu (50.37), Banten (51.25), and West Java (52.11).
Other regions also scoring over the average are; Central Java (51.14), Yogyakarta (52.67), North Kalimantan (50.52), East Kalimantan (49.69), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) (50.76), North Sulawesi (49.64), Central Sulawesi (49.76), and South Sulawesi (50.84).
According to the Bawaslu Commissioner, the main issue that might spark conflict in the provinces mentioned above is the right to vote.
