TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian courier service JNE is scheduled to bring in a fully automated sorting machine able to sort up to one million items per second in mid-year.

“The automatic sorting center is meant to accommodate packages in a matter of seconds,” said Mayland Hendar Prasetyo, Deputy Director e-Commerce & Partnership JNE.

Mayland explained the investment value in importing the technology itself spent Rp1 trillion, which is hoped to boost the courier service’s performance up to 20 million packages each month.

As of now, JNE has set a system that will be implemented into the automation system to slash the testing time of the technology. This means that it can immediately be tested at the Cengkareng Mega Hub as soon as it lands in Indonesia.

Upon answering the worries of the automated sorting machine, JNE assured that the company will not reduce the number of employees working for them but rather transfer the human resources to JNE warehouses that are not equipped with the new machine.

“JNE can guarantee that there will be no layoffs yet there will be cost efficiencies,” said Mayland.
