South Sumatra PITI: No Room for Practical Politics in Mosques

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Sumatra regional council of Indo - Chinese Islamic Association (PITI) officially declared its refusal against politicizing mosques in any shape and form, especially when the country is nearing the 2019 General Elections (Pemilu).
Their declaration and warning for political candidates were held at the Al Islam Muhammad Cheng Ho Mosque in Jakabaring, Palembang on Thursday, April 4.
“What is needed in the campaign period for the legislative election and presidential election as seen right now is for everyone to collectively agree on not using mosques as a campaign ground,” said Ahmad Affandi, South Sumatra’s PITI Chairman in Palembang.
He asserted that mosques should exclusively be used as spiritual and religious worship where practical politics should effectively be shunned.
“Fill the mosques with positive activities without any hidden political agendas,” said Affandi who also warned that the same act shall be conducted in other religious houses of worships.
