TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Finance Ministry’s Directorate General of Taxation announced 6.9 million taxpayers or 44.5 percent of the total taxpayers had yet to report their annual tax returns (SPT Pajak). The deadline to submit SPTs is set on March 31.

Directorate General of Taxation's spokesman Hestu Yoga Saksama said 8.6 million taxpayers had reported their annual tax returns, which is merely 54.8 percent of the ministry’s goal this year of 15.5 million tax returns reported.

“There were 8.628 million submitted up to this morning, 93 percent of which or 8.02 million were reported via e-filing, 600 thousand manually reported, and e-SPT,” said Yoga on Monday, March 25.

However, Yoga said there was a 10.78 percent increase from that of the same period last year. The total number of taxpayers is reported at 18.3 million and the directorate general sought to collect 15.5 million, an increase compared to last year's.

The increased goal is nonetheless related to the government’s target in utilizing the state budget (APBN), but this goal might be deferred or unrealized as the ministry was still grappling with tax compliance.
