TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati believes the Indonesian election of 2019 (pemilu) will not hamper the country’s economic growth since it is not the first time Indonesia held a general election.

“The general election (Pemilu) should not be a reason to spark worries, however, we must also be aware of global issues that is currently experiencing a real economic weakening,” said Sri Mulyani in Jakarta at the Bidakara Headquarters on Thursday.

Based on Indonesia’s economic growth, she said, stakeholders must be able to maintain last year’s positive momentum in 2019, which kicked-off positively with a low inflation rate. This adheres to her call for a strong economy that would be able to resist the effects of a global crisis.

“February experienced a deflation, and the balance of payments was also positive,” said Sri Mulyani.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani also called for increased domestic consumption, investments, and a continuation of export diversifications. All of which will help the government realize its domestic economic growth.
