TEMPO.CO, Bogor - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi welcomed a number officials of the Betawi Brotherhood Forum or FBR (Forum Betawi Rempug) at Bogor Palace, West Java, today, March 18.

FBR leader Lutfi Hakim said the President asked FBR members to guard polling stations (TPS) during the presidential election on April 17, 2019.

“Yes, he [President Jokowi] asks for security at TPS and demands FBR encourage people to not become abstainers (golput),” said Lutfi Monday, March 18, after the meeting.

Lutfi mentioned he commonly assigned FBR members to monitor the TPS during the election—as they did during the 2014 presidential election and the Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2017. So, he added, FBR would deploy personnel for security purposes in the upcoming election.

Lutfi further said that President Jokowi responded positively to the plans. “He responds positively to it and support [us].”

Earlier on March 10, the FBR declared to back the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin pair, allowing for the former Jakarta governor’s exceptional track record relative to his attention to the Betawi community and its culture.
