TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has formed ties with aviation authorities of Southeast Asian countries, grouped in ASEAN, in the wake of two deadly crashes of Boeing 737 Max 8 in less than six months.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said that the partnership was initiated to generate the same strategy that would be taken by the government upon the continuity of the brand new jet.

“So we want to share our opinions on this incident first,” said Luhut Wednesday, March 13, at his office, Central Jakarta.

Luhut explained that intensive communication on the matter was made after several countries grounded Boeing 737 Max 8. The countries are Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

According to Luhut, Indonesia has yet decided when the ban will be dropped, awaiting the response released by Boeing Co and recommendation from the US aviation authority or Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT)’s head of Aviation Investigation Subcommittee, Nurcahyo Utomo, earlier said that Boeing Co would soon modify Boeing 737 Max 8 in a bid to ensure the flight security.
