TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The former chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), AM Hendropriyono, asserted that the Free Papua Movement or OPM is categorized as a terrorist group because the group killed innocent people.

“A terrorist murders innocent people. So that’s clear, [OPM] is a terrorist group. Whoever they are, claiming as a hero, jihadist, or communist, or anything, they are terrorist. So I say, don’t say OPM as criminals. They are terrorist,” said Hendro Wednesday, March 13, at the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM).

During a book launching event titled “Mengapa Kita Harus Kembali ke UUD 1945” that literally means why we should return to 1945 Constitution, Hendro opined the organization wanted to free Papua and West Papua from the Republic of Indonesia.

The movement was even worrying and killed innocent people that Hendro considered as the act of terrorism. Hendro further urged all to not mention them as a criminal armed group, while they are clearly terrorists.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko earlier suggested an evaluation on the operation status of the Indonesia National Army (TNI) in Nduga, Papua following the attack that led to the killing of three soldiers in the region.
