TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Migrant Care executive director Wahyu Susilo expressed hisappreciation toward the release of Siti Aisyah from the murder charges against Kim Jong-Nam, but urged the Indonesian government to take comprehensive steps for Siti following her release.

“Migrant Care demands the Indonesian government take comprehensive steps following Siti Aisyah’s return, by restoring her reputation and social reintegration,” said the rights group executive director on Monday.

Wahyu said Migrant Care had been keeping a close watch on Siti’s trial since the onset. He added the Indonesian government had been proactive in furnishing legal and diplomatic assistance during the trial.

He also maintained that Siti Aisyah’s release could not be separated from Malaysia’s moratorium against death penalty last year.

“Migrant Care appreciates this decision,” he said.

Siti Aisyah and Doan Thi Huong from Vietnam were tried for their alleged roles in the murder of Kim Jong-nam. The women were accused of smearing the toxic nerve agent VX on his face at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in February 2017.

Both women claimed they did not know what was happening and thought they were taking part in a prank for a Japanese comedy show. Kim Jong-nam died minutes after the toxic lotion was smeared on his face.
