TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During the inauguration ceremony of Bakauheni-Teranggi Besar Toll Road, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo stated that the construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road project, which connects Bakauheni in Lampung and Aceh, will be completed in 2024.
"People asks when Lampung and Aceh will be connected [with toll road]? I answer, God's willing, by 2024," said Jokowi in a statement issued by the Deputy of Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat on Friday, March 8, 2019.
Jokowi inaugurated the 140.9-kilometer Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar toll road in South Lampung on March 8, 2019. The project will be extended until Palembang and is expected to complete in June 2019. "That will be 350 kilometers in total," Jokowi noted.
The President hoped that the newly-inaugurated toll would boost tourism and economy in the area. Also, the investment is estimated to increase following the availability of supporting facilities, which will create new jobs.
