TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian vice presidential candidate Ma`ruf Amin said that he believes that the Jokowi - Ma'ruf Amin pair would gain at least 70 percent of votes in West Java Province, considering an increasing trend of supporters for his camp.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of his visit to Ciwaringin Islamic Boarding School here on Monday, Amin stated that he was optimistic about the percentage of votes that the Jokowi- Amin pair would achieve in the upcoming presidential elections.

"Now, we will not just win. But, we will win more than 70 percent of votes in West Java. Alhamdulillah (Thank God)," the ulema-turned-politician and running mate of Jokowi, who will compete with the Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno pair, stated.

According to Amin, West Java is quite large, and he is yet to visit the entire areas of this most populous province. However, he is confident that his volunteers would keep campaigning about the Jokowi-Amin pair to community members in West Java.

He remarked that he has been scheduled to visit many more districts and towns in West Java Province in coming days, including Kuningan, Banjar, Ciamis, and Pangandaran.

In the 2014 presidential elections, the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla pair was defeated by the Subianto-Hatta Rajasa in West Java Province.

For this year`s presidential elections, due to be held on April 17, the Jokowi-Amin pair has set an ambition to win majority of votes in West Java. In return, the Prabowo-Sandi pair seriously attempts to defeat the Jokowi-Amin pair in Central Java Province.

In connection with the 2019 presidential election, the General Election Commissions (KPU) has prepared five rounds of presidential debates for the pairs of Jokowi- Amin and Subianto- Uno pairs.

The presidential debates, broadcast live by several television channels, are expected to help some 192 million eligible voters, who will participate in this democratic process, to become well-informed on the two pairs` capacity and capability.

Empowered with sufficient information about the candidates, they will be able to vote rationally. Whoever wins the upcoming presidential election, Indonesia will have a new pair of capable president and vice president.
