PSSI Soccer Mafia: Jokowi Orders Complete Investigation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi demanded the National Police immediately complete the investigation into the soccer mafia case involving officials of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI).
“Finish the case thoroughly, so our football is truly clear (from mafia),” said Jokowi in Pasar Minggu Youth Center, Friday, February 22.
Jokowi believed if the football association had been rid of the match-fixing scandal, the real champion would be truly worthy of a trophy. Jokowi said he did not want the euphoria of victory of a club to be spoiled by an uncovered scandal in the future.

Jokowi said the government would not intervene in the investigation when PSSI had dealt with it internally and would adhere to the rules binding the Indonesian football and the world. “Whether PSSI plans to hold a congress, it’s their call, as based on FIFA statutes,” he added.
National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian deployed a task force of anti-soccer mafia on December 21, 2018. During two months of work, the task force named 15 suspects in the soccer mafia case, including acting PSSI head Joko Driyono, PSSI executive committee member Johar Lin Eng, and PSSI disciplinary committee member Dwi Irianto alias Mbah Putih.
