TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State air carrier Garuda Indonesia Group has dropped its airfares by 20 percent across all flight routes as of today, Thursday, February 14.
This price drop will immediately cut flight prices of Garuda's sister-carriers which include; Garuda Indonesia, Citilink Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air, and NAM Air.
“It goes with the public aspiration and a number of national industry associations,” said Garuda Indonesia president director I Gusti Ngurah Akhsara Danadiputra in his statement in Jakarta.
This also follows the orders of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to help the economy of micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector.
Ari Assured that the airfare cut is Garuda Indonesia’s commitment upon the industry's sustainability.
The announcement came just one day after the Transportation Ministry summoned a number of air carriers that discussed the airfare hike which was known to be the direct effect of the soaring price of jet fuel or avtur.
