Four Killed in Manado Flooding, Landslide

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four people were killed due to flooding and landslide that hit the North Sulawesi provincial capital of Manado on Friday (Feb. 1), the Manado City Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) said.

"The body of a resident carried away by water current is found today, bringing the death toll to four," acting Chief of the BPBD Maximilian Tatahede said here on Saturday.

The death toll consisted of two people killed by flood and two by landslide.

The four bodies were identified as Nathalia Lapian (1), Jon Duarmas (45), Richard Patabone (5), and Hidayat Lahamendu (22).

Tatahede asked local residents to stay alert for the current weather which sometimes becomes extreme. "Be always be vigilant to carry out activities when heavy rains fall. If possible, stay away from flood-and landslide-prone areas such riverside, hill and slope.
