Uncircumcised Men at Risk for Penile Cancer

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A formidable male-exclusive disease, other than prostate cancer, that often haunts men is penile cancer which is prone to be suffered among uncircumcised men.
In a discussion held in Jakarta on Thursday, Jan. 31, Parkway Cancer Centre Singapore oncologist Dr. Richard Quek stated that research shows uncircumcised men will more likely be struck with penile cancer compared with circumcised men.
Men’s vital organ that is not circumcised, he said, will house smegma or sebaceous secretion in the folds of the foreskin that can develop germs which lead to infections. This is believed to knit the cancer cells.
“Each and every man has smegma which will cease to exist once circumcised. Infinitely, the smegma will stay and eventually create cancer cells if left uncircumcised,” said the doctor.
Dr. Richard suggests circumcision be done at an early age to reduce the risk at hand and protect men from penile cancer. He advises circumcision to be done as early as 5 years old since the smegma has completely developed at that age.
