PUPR Ministry Projects Spending Rp21tn to Build 9 Dams Next Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry plans to build nine dams in 2019. The project is targeted to be completed in 2023.

According to the ministry's director general of water resources, Hari Suprayogi, the estimated cost to build the nine dams is Rp21 trillion. "Under a multiyear scheme for four or five years," he said here on Wednesday, January 30.

In the course of three years from 2015 to 2018, the government had been building 56 dams across the country. Fifteen of those have been completed.

The nine will mainly be located in the eastern parts of Indonesia. In the eastern parts, one dam will be built each in East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi. Two will be located in Southeast Sulawesi

In the central part of the archipelago, one dam each would be built in Central Java and South Kalimantan.

On the west side, a dam will be constructed in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.
