TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In a Rapim (leadership meeting) held at the Merdeka Palace today, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asserted the importance of neutrality among members of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) in facing the legislative and presidential election.

“The politics of the TNI and Polri is 'state politics', which is why it is essential that neutrality is maintained. More importantly for the continuance of the election that should be conducive and peaceful,” said President Jokowi Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The neutrality among TNI and Police institution, according to the president, will only come to fruition if relations between both instances are tight and synergize with each other’s efforts in maintaining the country’s security.

The Rapim was attended by 368 high-ranking officers that consist of 198 TNI members and 170 Police officers. Touching the subject of Alutsista (primary weapon defense system), Jokowi urged the members of the meeting to respond swiftly to evolutionary changes which he said is sparked by the industrial revolution 4.0 that sees developments in AI, virtual reality and 3D printing.
