Founder of Sinar Mas Group, Eka Tjipta Widjaja, Passes Away at 97

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The founder of the Sinar Mas Group, Eka Tjipta Widjaja, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 19:43 WIB.

Information from Sinar Mas stated that the body of Eka Tjipta Widjaja would be buried in the funeral home of the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital in Jakarta.

"That is true (Mr. Tjipta had passed away). The official statement will be reported further tonight or tomorrow morning," said Stephanie, a representative from the Sinar Mas Group.

Eka was born February 27, 1921 and is 97 years old. The owner of the Sinar Mas Group in 2018 was named the second richest person in Indonesia by Forbes in 2018 with a wealth of Rp205 trillion.

Eka Tjipta Widjaja is the richest first person in Indonesia according to the December 2012 edition of Globe Asia Magazine with assets reaching 8.7 billion US dollars.
