Jusuf Kalla: Election won't Disrupt Economy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that the general election will not disrupt economic condition in Indonesia, reasoning that no conflict emerges caused by the 2019 election.
“The situation is different from [what has happened in] other countries such as the Philippines, Pakistan, or Thailand. General election doesn’t cause, let’s say, conflict among the society. That’s why the economic condition will not be affected,” said Kalla when met after attending the annual meeting of Financial Services Industry 2019 in Ritz Carlton Hotel, South Jakarta, on Friday, January 11.
Kalla further said that he expected the General Election would increase people's consumption in order to boost the domestic economy.
Therefore, the vice president called on the investors to witness the real condition when addressing the economic situation in the political year. He said that the economy will run well, detached from the politics.
“Look at the reality. We are not affected. So, the investors do not need to worry since it is secured. And it’s proven by the financial market situation; our exchange rate is getting stronger,” Jusuf Kalla remarked.
