Jokowi to Inaugurate Doni Monardo as New BNPB Head

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will inaugurate Lieutenant General Doni Monardo as the new Head of the National Mitigation Agency (BNPB) at the State Palace in Jakarta today.
Doni was supposed to be inaugurated on Wednesday last week with an already announced invitation for the event, however, it was canceled due to administration issues as stated by BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.
Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said that the government had to revise the Presidential Decree No.8/2008 that oversees the BNPB. It will be positioned under the authority of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, which directly reports to the president.
Throughout his military career, Doni Monardo filled strategic positions such as a commander of Military Territorial Commands (Pangdam PPattimura), the Commander of Indonesian Army's Special Forces (Kopassus), Commander of the president’s security, and the National Defense Board Secretary General.
