TEMPO.CO, Tulungagung - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi paid special attention to the price of rice and strived to keep it stable.

“The first thing I check is the [price of] rice because it has an effect on inflation,” Jokowi said at the STKIP PGRI Campus Tulungagung, East Java, Friday, January 4.

Jokowi said the stabilization of the price of rice through Bulog (State Logistics Agency) market operations began to effectively stabilize the price of rice.

“We usually see that the increase is definitely high in every December and January. I see it is stable now, medium rice is also sufficient,” he said, adding that the average price of medium rice was Rp8,500 per kilogram.

Jokowi checked all prices of staple foods; which one is decreased, stabilized and increased.

“The [price of] chicken meat is increased Rp1,000, from Rp31,000 to Rp32,000 per kilogram. I think this needs attention even though the increase is only Rp1,000,” Jokowi said.
