TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Anak Krakatau made another eruption at 12:03 PM Western Indonesia Time on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Based on data from the Anak Krakatau Volcano Observation Post, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said that the mountain, which located in the Sunda Strait, registered another eruption making a towering ash column reaching as high as 1,600 meters above the mountain peak. Currently, the volcano alert level remains at Level III status.

"Local residents or tourists are not allowed to approach within a 5-kilometer radius of the crater," the ESDM Ministry said on its website on Thursday, January 3, 2019.

The ash column was observed heading north and northeast. This eruption is recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 31 mm and a duration approximately 1 minute 10 seconds. However, no explosions were heard.

A few weeks before, volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau has caused a tsunami in the Sunda Strait, affecting a number of regions in the Banten and Lampung Provinces.
