TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As of last night, 432 residents of Sebesi Island had been evacuated to the Kalianda indoor tennis court. Sebesi is one of the islands located within the vicinity of Mount Anak Krakatau.

This marks a near complete evacuation of Sebesi residents with 2,032 evacuees from a total population of 2,814 people from the evacuation in the past three days.

According to Anasrullah, Head of South Lampung’s transportation agency, the hundreds of residents departed from Sebesi Island Harbor at 16:30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) and arrived at Panjang Harbor in Bandarlampung at 18:00 WIB.

Previously, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced that it had raised the status of Mount Anak Krakatau to Alert level III (siaga) following heightened activities shown by the volcano. The agency also issued a 5-kilometer radius no-go zone at Krakatau’s vicinity.

Five days after the Sunda Strait tsunami, refugees continue to swarm safe areas in the vicinity of Sebesi Island. Up to Thursday night, there were more than 7,500 people taking refuge from the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption.
