TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has traveled westwards and southwest.

“A pattern has emerged from the spread of volcanic ash toward the western and southwest region,” stated BMKG on Wednesday, December 26, through its Twitter account. The agency also announced that the ash clouds from Mount Anak Krakatau reached the height of 10 kilometers.

This was testified by a resident of Ciwedus in Cilegon, Indra Bayu, who said that local residents felt the effects since this afternoon with visible volcanic ashes creating a thin layer over car windshields.

Cilegon is distanced roughly 70 kilometers from the mountain based on Google maps calculations.

“It has caused slight eye irritation,” said Indra to Tempo.

Moreover, due to the volcanic ashes from Mount Anak Krakatau, BMKG called for residents to always wear eye protection and facemasks in conducting outdoor activities.
