Sri Mulyani Explains Increase of Balance of Trade Deficit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said that the balance of trade deficit in November 2018 had increased due to the high and uncertain dynamics of the global economy.
"We must see that the external economic factors from the export side will be a challenge," Minister Sri said at the Dhanapala Building on Monday, December 17, 2018.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), throughout November, Indonesia's balance of trade experienced a deficit of USD 2.05 billion, in line with the deficit in the balance of oil and gas.
The deficit was caused by the balance of export recorded at USD 14.83 which is lower than the balance of import value at USD 16.88 billion.
Sri Mulyani explained that export commodities must be observed carefully. Sri added that she will also seek improvement in the balance of trade and current transactions from capital flows.
The current account balance, said Sri Mulyani, is estimated to be in a 3 percent deficit.
"Yesterday, the capital flow carried out by the Indonesian government, in terms of stability, the prospect of economic growth, was still good," said Sri Mulyani.
