Bank Indonesia Launches Edu-tourism Village in East Java

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia has just launched an education-tourism program dubbed Kampung Organik Brenjonk (Brenjonk Organic Village) in Trawas and Pacet sub-districts, Mojokerto, East Java.

The program is focused on stepping up food security, women-empowerment, food availability for family economic consumption, and environment.

The launch event, led by BI deputy governor Sugeng, took place in Mojokerto, Surabaya, and is part of the 2018 Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF).

Sugeng said the launch underscored BI’s commitment to supporting local economic development.

“Previously, BI also gave support through management trainings of ecotourism management, organic certification, organic rice milling, homestay room renovation, organic vegetable garden, information centers, food courts, and many more,” Sugeng said in a release dated Friday, December 14, 2018.

Presently, there are some 130 green houses established on narrow lands around local residences managed by housewives. The products of which have been distributed to modern markets and restaurants alike as premium organic products.

“The achievements of Brenjonk Organic Village have lured visitors to the area,” Sugeng said.

He added some 1,000 tourists visited the village annually, and that the village had won multiple awards, both national and international ones.
