Jokowi to Attend World Economic Forum ASEAN  

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo is scheduled to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN today, September 12, during his working visit to Vietnam. President and the First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo arrived at Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi, Vietnam, Tuesday, September 11, after a four-hour trip from South Korea. 

The World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN would be held in the National Convention Center (NCC), Hanoi, Vietnam. Jokowi earlier attended several bilateral meetings with Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Sri Lanka Prime Minister.

Accompanying Jokowi and First Lady Iriana during the trip from South Korea were Coordinating Minister for Political Law and Security Wiranto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Trikasih Lembong, as well as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan and Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara.

President Jokowi said the trade between Indonesia and Vietnam was gradually increased in the past few years and so its potential would be explored and developed in a bid to boost both countries’ economy. Jokowi mentioned that in the past three years, the trend on the trade of both countries reached US$6.8 billion.

“We expect our trade in 2020 can reach US$10 billion,” said President Jokowi as quoted from Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media, Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin, in a written statement received on Tuesday, September 12. The statement was delivered during a press conference along with the Vietnamese President, Tran Dai Quang.

Indonesia and Vietnam came to an agreement on the enhancement of both countries' partnership in trade, investment, eradication of illegal fishing, and an issue of the Exclusive Economic Zone and regional peace.
