2018 Asian Para Games Torch Decorated with Batik Ornaments

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (Inapgoc) will parade the torch to welcome the biggest disabled sports event in Asia, in eight cities.

The fire for the torch will be taken from a source of eternal fire at Mrapen, Grobogan. Furthermore, it will be stored in a lantern and paraded in Solo. At the peak event of the National Sports Day in Ternate, the fire will be ignited on the torch.

The Asian Para Games torch has a special design. The color is golden yellow with a weight of 1.9 kilograms. “The color is the same as the lantern used to store the Mrapen’s fire,” said Ageng Nugroho, Inapgoc Ceremonial Division, Tuesday night September 4.

Half of the torch is ornamented with traditional batik. “The motif is batik parang,” he said. The decoration is to show the richness of art and culture of Indonesia.

The front side of the torch is also decorated with the 2018 Asian Para Games logo. On the back side, there is a key used to regulate the flame.

At the bottom, there are other ornaments in the form of three rings. The rings are the symbol of Citius, Altius and Fortius. “The meaning is faster, higher and stronger,” he said. There is also a writing made in braille. “To show that this event is for disabled athletes,” he said.

The 2018 Asian Para Games torch will be paraded to several cities before being taken to Jakarta. The cities are Ternate, Makassar, Bali, Pontianak, Medan and Pangkal Pinang.
