TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The fact that Indonesia is hosting the 2018 Asian Games, a largest quadrennial sporting event in the continent, sparked numerous talks and euphoria among Indonesians be it in real life or on social media.
According to Australia-based media analytics and monitoring company Isentia, the Asian Games opening ceremony garnered the most attention of internet users, especially on social media. The company found said that there were 74,075 posts related to the event in the past two days.
“Discussions regarding the Asian Games opening ceremony reached half of the total buzz of the 2018 Asian Games that we monitored during the past three months,” said Rendy Ezra, Isentia Insight Manager.

Isentia was founded by Neville Jeffress back in 1982 in Melbourne where they initially provided services in monitoring conventional media. However, as time progressed, the company expanded its monitoring of social media in Indonesia since 2011. Isentia is currently listed in the Australian stock exchange and has 18 branch offices.
Following the opening ceremony, ‘President Jokowi’ became appeared to top the keyword search list on social media with 28,873 discussions. Not only that, Isentia stated that Asian Games’ football sporting event was also popular among social media users with 15,777 interactions.
Twitter is still the preferred social media platform that is used by most people to talk about the 2018 Asian Games with 96.5 percent, followed by Facebook with 2.8 percent, and other alternatives such as Instagram with 0.54 percent.
