Jenang dawet refers to the porridge with a sweet flavor that is processed from rice flour, and then given a mixture of dawet or cendol. Jenang dawet can be bought every morning in the traditional markets. However, if you want to visit the most legendary stall, come to Wonosari, Gunungkidul.
In the small town of the southeast side of Yogyakarta, there is a jenang dawet stall which is said to have been opened since the 1970s. The name is Warung Mbah Dawet.
Mbah Dawet actually refers to the nickname of the founder. But now, the owner has retired. Now the business is continued by the third child, namely Parti.
Parti still maintains the main menu, namely jenang dawet. The recipe is still the same. One of the customers, Tririaningsih, who met in January, said that its taste has not been changed since 1973.
Warung Mbah Dawet locates in a semi-permanent stall measuring less than 10 square meters. There, every morning Parti held a long table to put the pans. The pot contains juruh (brown sugar sauce), white and red porridge, and dawet or cendol. The four components are the main ingredients to make a jenang dawet.
Dawet served in a small bowl, the size of a hand grip. The mini size makes it suitable for breakfast. Sweet taste of juruh, combined with a tasty jenang with a very soft texture can make a good mood in the morning.
There are two serving variations of dawet, warm and cold. If you want to eat cold jenang, Parti will add ice cubes.
Besides jenang dawet, there is a variety of fried foods. It is sold Rp500 while jenang Rp3,000 per bowl.
Warung Mbah Dawet is located across Wonosari Flower Park, Gunungkidul. The position is right in the heart of the city so it is quite strategic to be visited by residents from various regions.
