TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that he is responsible for floods that hit the capital city yesterday. “I’m responsible. Yesterday’s event is my responsibility,” he said at the City Hall today.
To anticipate flooding from taking place, Anies Baswedan said that he will instruct his subordinates to share the responsibility. In addition, he will also ensure that all pumps are fully functional.

The Governor earlier found that several pumps were dysfunctional such as those in Dukuh Atas where only two out of six pumps functioned normally. As a result, it took a long time to pump out 1-meter high flood water in the area.
“Even if there are 150 pumps, if one pump is troubled, it can be a problem. It should be problem free,” he said.
On floods that hit Jatipadang sub-district, Anies said that he and his subordinates are on alert. “The broken embankment served as an alarm to improve our readiness. In terms of preparedness, we have done our homework. But if one or two are being reckless, problems will arise,” he said.
Anies Baswedan said that the Water Resources Department has fixed the dam this morning.
