TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok was not in the list of convicts who receive remissions on the Independence Day.
“Ahok is not qualified yet for a remission. Hopefully, there will be a religious remission for Christians. He could get a remission on Christmas,” Arpan, head of the correctional division at the Law and Human Rights Ministry, said at the Salemba Correctional Facility in Central Jakarta on Thursday, August 17.

According to him, a convict must meet several requirements to receive a remission, such as showing good behavior and serving a six-month prison time, as set forth in the Presidential Decision No. 174/1999.
Ahok was sent to prison on May 9, 2017, at the Mobile Brigade headquarter in Depok, West Java.
Under Presidential Regulation No. 174/1999, a convict who has served a six-month jail term deserves a one-month remission. After a year, the convict is eligible to receive a two-month remission, and so on until the remissions accumulate to six months.
