TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team has gone through to the AFF Cup final after last night’s 2-2 draw with Vietnam at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, December 7, 2016. Indonesia won with an aggregate of 4-3, following the 2-1 victory in the first leg.
Indonesia had a dramatic encounter with Vietnam last night. The host dominated the first half but could not score any goal, ending the half at 0-0.
Indonesia scored first in the 56th minute when Boaz Salossa freely penetrated Vietnam’s left defense. Vietnam goalkeeper Tram Nguyen Manh fumbled an attempt to catch the ball, allowing Stefano Lilipaly to nod the ball into the net.
Despite playing with ten men following their goalkeeper’s sending off, Vietnam equalized in the 83rd minute after goalkeeper Kurnia Meiga failed to block Vu Van’s long range shot.
In added time, Vietnam’s Vu Minh Tuan unexpectedly scored the team’s second goal, making it 2-1 to the host. The game extended to extra time as the aggregate read 3-3.
Indonesia scored another goal in the 97th minute after Manahati Lestusen converted from the spot. The referee awarded Indonesia a penalty kick following a foul by replacement goalkeeper Ngoc Hai. The score changed to 2-2.
Playing with 10 men, Vietnam did not lower their attack intensity. They continue to put pressure and look for another goal. Their efforts did not come to fruition, however, after the referee blows the final whistle.
