TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vidhyandika D. Perkasa, Head of Political and International Relations Department at Center of Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) asserted that there are three factors that slow down the progress of democracy in Indonesia, "corruption, economic disparity, and unfair elections."

Vindhyandika said that according to a recent survey, 16 percent of respondents believed that Indonesia's democracy is in poor condition, because of bad judicial system and poor law enforcement.

The respondents believed that proof of the sub-par judicial system can be seen in many corruption cases in Indonesia.

Corruption continues to be seen as the main reason for respondents to remain pessimistic about the growth of democracy in Indonesia. Some 1,000 respondents taking part in the survey argued that poverty is also becoming an obstacle in the development of Democracy.

The survey was conducted by the CSIS on August 8 to August 15, 2016. The survey was held in 34 provinces using random sampling method.
