TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that the defense infrastructures improvement in Natuna, Riau Islands, would include radar monitoring and airport development.
"Natuna will become a state defense home base in the outer territory. Natuna is a sea border area," Pramono said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
Earlier, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo viewed that Natuna has rooms for developments in the fisheries industry, the oil and gas industry and defense infrastructure.
Pramono revealed that the infrastructures improvement in Natuna will be followed by a power plant development, as stated by Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry. Pramono explained that the development would be financed by the State Budget.
Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said that the government would develop airport runways to accommodate large aircrafts and fighter jets.
"Runway development for jet fighters must be taken seriously. A single gravel could be dangerous," Ryamizard said.
Ryamizard added that the runway development would follow the runway standards for F-16 and Sukhoi Su-35. Another infrastructure to be developed is a harbor for three frigates and a submarine.
