TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Indonesia Thomas and Uber teams will arrive in Indonesia this evening and will be welcomed despite failing to win the tournament.
“Even though we failed to bring back Thomas and Uber Cups 2016, the achievement of Indonesia Thomas team as runners-up is something to be proud of, having reached our last final in 2010. Moreover, the achievement was made by a team which consisted of mostly young players,” Community Relations and Social Media Division Head of Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) Yuni Kartika said today, May 23, 2016 in a press release.
Therefore, PBSI will welcome Thomas Cup 2016 team and give them with wreaths of flowers, Yuni said.
Indonesia has failed to end its 14-year Thomas Cup draught after being beaten by Denmark. As for Denmark, it was the first Thomas Cup title after a 67-year wait.
Indonesia lost in three men’s singles matches against Denmark. Tommy Sugiarto, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, and Ihsan Maulana Mustofa failed to net a single point despite lifeline given by Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan and Angga Pratama/Ricky Karanda Suwardi through their wins over respective opponents.
